(Important news from the newly formed Neighborhood Coalition. Please read below.) Park/Quail Neighborhood Coalition Something very exciting is happening in your "community"! The neighborhoods in our section of Park Road (approx. Park Rd. at Park South Dr. south to Park Road at Johnston Rd.) are coming together and organizing so that we may impact the future of our community. We are calling ourselves the Park/Quail Neighborhood Coalition for now, but are hoping to come up with a great identifier name so that we can market ourselves easily and everyone in Charlotte will know exactly who and where we are! The Coalition met for the first time on October 9th at Forest Hill Church. There were representatives from Huntingtowne Farms, Quail Hollow Estates Condos and Homes, Oberbeck Farms, Cameron Wood, Hamlin Park, Park Crossing and Johnstowne and our Community Police Officers and this is just the beginning…there are many other neighborhoods that we are in the process of identifying and contacting so that they may be included. The purpose of the Coalition is to insure and promote the recognition and identification of our quality community; to provide the community with a means to communicate it needs, concerns and promote it’s general welfare within the community and to local officials, developers, businesses and others outside the community; and to provide a centralized organization where the city, county, state and private developers and businesses can effectively receive community input. The first meeting was spent sharing information and views on topics that affect our area (i.e. Crime, Saks Fifth Ave. and the Village at Seven Eagles, the 2003 election, the Carmel Road Library, Park Road maintenance issues, future zoning, Quail Corners Shopping Center, the Little Sugar Creek Greenway, Light Rail Stations etc.). There are plans for future meetings. Some of the meetings will be general meetings and some will be topic specific where we will scheduled speakers to inform us and to address any concerns. All meetings will be open to the public but be assured that a representative from your neighborhood will be in attendance at all meetings and will communicate to you what was discussed and what topics we are currently working on. We hope that if there are areas of special concern to you, that you will volunteer on that committee and help us make this an even better place to live. If you would like to receive regular communication via email from the Coalition, including meeting dates, please email Mary Settlemyre at maryesettlemyre@carolina.rr.com . (Thanks so much to Mary Settlemyre and other leaders of communities in our area. As more information is available, I will post it on our website. Check back often to get updates.) Webmaster
